There is little point in having a website if nobody visits it, make sure as part of you contract you have discussed search engine optimisation and or search engine marketing as part of your website build. Getting paid, like you would imagine is fundamentally crucial in your business because if you do not get paid, what’s the point in business?

You will be laughing at the number of business people who let their clients to make payment when and if they get around to it. I know a business owner who habitually gets bad debts like weeds. For what reason? Simply because he can’t bring himself to request the money and lets people take advantage of him.

If you permit a customer credit, only do so when they have cleared their integrity to you by paying cash on delivery (COD) for some period. Moreover, you need to find whether they have the means to pay you - if not then do not do business with them. Don’t trick yourself into the pattern of “I need the work” or “I need the sales”. It’s fruitless to do the work or providing the goods for nada if you are not getting paid.

  • 3 trade references with their names, addresses and phone numbers
